3.4 Interpreting the Display

The radar screen presents a circular sweep showing echoes from targets. Key elements include:

  • Radar Sweep: The rotating line indicating the radar's transmission and reception.
  • Alvos: Echoes from objects like other vessels, landmasses, or buoys.
  • Cursor: A movable indicator used to select targets or points on the screen.
  • Markers (VRM/EBL): Variable Range Markers (VRM) and Electronic Bearing Lines (EBL) are used to measure distance and bearing to targets.
  • Alarms and Indicators: The display provides visual and audible alarms for various conditions, such as target acquisition, guard zone breaches, or system warnings.
